The Peace of Mind that comes from knowing that you are trading legally!

The confidence of knowing that you can get on with designing your own fabulous range!

"I only use melt and pour base and add colours and fragrances I buy from a supplier of cosmetic ingredients

- Do I need a certificate/certification???.

YES! Certification covers both the ingredients, the methods and specifies a competant person. If in doubt, contact the DTI for advice.

ALSO, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to obtain any valid product liability insurance if you are not certified.

It is simply not true to say that buying ingredients from any one supplier means that you do not need certification to sell your soap. Certification exists to protect both you and your customers!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO CUSTOMERS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AT THIS TIME.

(Please note that you have to purchase the items in each package seperately: A certification package is a list of the ingredients that you are intending to use, etc.To order supplies please use the product or kits pages).

Safety Assessment Service is available for the following product groups:

Soaps

Bath Bombs

Lip Balms

Bath Salts and Milks

Solid Shampoos

Shaving Soaps

Herbal Bath Teas.

The Process

1: Decide which product groups you are interested in.

2. Contact us by phone or email to discuss your requirements.

3. We ask you to confirm the ingredients, packaging, and other items that you are proposing to use.

4. We will then prepare a quote for the work (the new packages start from around £120.00 - your safety assement has no expiry date and does not restrict you to sourcing your supplies from one supplier provided that the other suppliers item is identical).

5. If you are happy with the quote, we will then submit the draft assessment to the toxicologist.

6. The Safety Assessment and related guidance will be issued in 14 - 28 days.

Is it cheaper to go direct to a toxicologist?

That depends, most will charge you per recipe or combination. They will certainly charge you for any testing that is required. It is unlikely that you will receive any of the additional information or ongoing extra support that we provide. You will also have to spend your valuable time preparing and writing up the formulations in the required format, and using, researcing the INCI names, CI numbers, etc for your products.

We can supply packages this competatively because we have already done the work, and already have certified all of the combinations included in our packages. By using our packages, that rely on our products and previous work, you are only paying for the time that it takes us and our cosmetic chemist to prepare and produce your certification. At The Soap Tub, our primary goal is to support the 1000+ soapers who rely on us to resource and equip their soap making needs. We are delighted that we have been able to launch this service that removes one of the main barriers to legally selling your products.

Please book your packages in advance of needing them. Please allow 14 days for the certificate to be issued. We are always happy to discuss with you any questions that you may have about this service and can design specific or bespoke packages on request for most cosmetic and toiletry products (please ask for details).
