Certificate Of Attendance

The Soap School provides good educational workshops but does not at this time offer externally validated qualifications. Attendance certificates are often asked for by grant or other other funding bodies. They are are also a useful (and attractive) record of the training that you have undertaken.

To be valid, all certificates have to be signed by the trainer and by Daniel Janes from the Soap Tub who keeps a permanent record of all certificates of attendance issued.

These are available to order on workshop days: The certificate is posted out at a later date.

Dedicated Teaching Materials for Soap Making!

On courses and workshops we usually get a good mix of beginners and more experienced soap makers. We actively encourage this as we aim to promote workshops where all participants are able to share as much as they feel comfortable with from their own experience. We aim to make our workshops as informal and friendly as we can. We do however try to pack as much as possible in so we appreciate participants arriving in good time so that we can start promptly. If you do have any questions about any of our training or workshops, please feel free to ask us.

Do you need accommodation or Pick Up's from the Huddersfield railway station or a hotel in Huddersfield? Picks are available at no charge both too and from your Huddersfield Town Centre accommodation and the railway station, just tell us what you need when you book your course place.

The Soap School Training Courses.

Questions and Answers.

Are courses suitable for me?

On most courses we have a good mix of absolute beginners, and more advanced soap and toiletries courses. Some people come along because they want to learn a new craft, or may be thinking about setting up a soap making business. Scouts, guides and other youth group leaders have come along to learn how to prepare projects for their youth groups. We try to get to know a little bit about everyone taking part so we can tailor each course to meet the needs of those taking part.

What about people with special needs?

It is good idea to ask us before booking as not all of our venues are suitable. However we aim to facilitate special needs whenever possible. We have developed projects for people with a range of learning and physical disabilities and have prepared safe working methods for those who are partially sighted or with very limited vision. We believe that we should try to ensure that we are as inclusive as we can be, and will work with you to design learning that is both safe, fun and appropriate.

I have a special diet.

On courses where we provide catering we can cater for most diets, including gluten free, casein and lactose free, vegetarian, vegan. Please tell us before the course so that we can prepare.

How experienced are the Trainers?

Sarah Janes, founder of The Soap Tub has been making soap and natural toiletries for many years. Sarah has been teaching soap making for the past three years. All our trainers are experienced or professional soap makers, and/or, own an established independent soap making company.

Do you issue a certificate of attendance?

We do not usually issue certificates, except where we have prepared a workshop that meets a specific outcome of a wider program of study. However, where a certificate is of attendance is required for a specific purpose we approve we are happy to do so. For validation of any certificate issued, contact Daniel Janes at the Soap School who acts as 'registrar' in all matters relating Soap School courses.

Group Size?

Varies on the type of workshop being done. We try to avoid groups larger than twenty persons and ensure that we have sufficient trainers to split groups into smaller groups where appropriate to the learning taking place.

How old do I have to be?

On all courses except young peoples fun days, participants MUST be 16 or over: Workshops are designed using methods appropriate to an adult learning environment and where younger persons are present it may not be able to meet the needs of all participants.

On young peoples fun days the lower age limit is 8 years and all participants must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Can my group book a private course of workshop?

Yes, we do accept bookings: prices are negotiable depending on numbers, organisation type and location. Training for staff new to soap making or soap selling is also available. Please contact us for details.

How far do people travel from to go on Soap School workshops?

Over the past year we have had participants fly in from Australia, Africa, and various European countries. Most of our courses achieve an international feel and we have been delighted by the different experiences that have been shared by participants from overseas. Help with finding accommodation is usually available.

Have participants on your courses gone on to found successful soap companies?

Yes, and whilst our workshops are intended to be an introduction, some participants have gone on to found companies that are now successfully either retailing or exporting. We have been pleased to be able to offer advice, guidance and ideas to an ever increasing number of participants through the early stages of their development. We would recommend that anyone who is thinking about either selling or making soap for sale talks through their ideas with either ourselves, or a business advisor at for example the Business Link network. Our workshops are an excellent place to explore your ideas, learn new ones and 'reality check' with experienced and professional soap makers/retailers.

I just want to have fun?

That's fine: Soap and Toiletries making can be fun and our courses are both informal and include hands on sessions where you will be encouraged to have a go.

Why do you only charge £99.00 (+VAT) for two day introductory workshops?

Because we try to make our courses accessible to those who want to do this for fun, or who have a grant from their youth group, or organisation. Why should learning new ideas and learning new ways of making things using our products be expensive? When we run courses we want to invest our time and expertise in you: If you are more creative, having more fun, or have a wider range of skills and potential products, we benefit from your ability to use our products well. If you have a few pennies left to buy products (at a discount on course days) to experiment with some of the ideas you will have seen demonstrated, that's fine too!

Have we answered your question?

No? Sorry, perhaps you could email it or phone 01484-453453?
